Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory – Sensor design competition

The Trans-African Hydro-Meteorological Observatory (TAHMO) is organizing the TAHMO Sensor Design Competition among African Universities. The stations need a suitable sensor that measures climate variables. Therefore, the project is aimed at designing building and operating the 20,000 weather stations in sub-Saharan Africa. The objective is to design a sensor that measures a weather or hydrological variable and is both inexpensive and robust. Top 20 teams with the best (written) designs will be sent a ‘Makers Package’ that will allow them to actually build a prototype. Deadline is 1 March 2013.

The project requires many skills and resources.  Not just technical, but also financial and educational inputs that are needed to make it a success.

An initial, in-progress list of tasks that need to be undertaken can be found under Tasks to be completed.
